Charlotte Hatherley Grey Will Fade Cover Art Devotchka How It Ends Album Art

  1. Yeah, someone wanted the warehouse space and dumped, (donated), them without whatsoever regard to potential retail value, maybe 15 years ago lots of sealed Peter Gabriel LPs started turning up here, people were going into shops and selling them 25 count boxes including sealed US imports, I grabbed a spare copy of "Passion" and a "Birdy" as that was all I was interested in, I recollect the shops were buying them for £1 or £2 each, I think they cost me £four in my local and they had loads of copies. I did some investigating and it turned out someone at Real World had had a articulate out and donated all Gabriel's returned stock to our local Scrapstore a clemency that recycles materials for kids and schools to use for art projects and so people were going in and getting boxes of sealed LPs for a couple of quid, kind of wish I'd grabbed a few more "Passions".

  2. I've a pile that need farther llistening before sleeving and filing, mayhap 20-30. I remember my backlog is and then big considering I like to play a CD quite a lot earlier putting it away. And because at some automobile boots I've hit a good seam of jazz or something, and bought 12 or 18 CDs from ane person!
  3. Indeed, it's time to scoop them upwards, whether they can exist played immediately or non.

Your figure makes me feel a lot better, Mart, cheers! :)

  4. [IMG]

Went to ix(!) charity shops today and bought just ane CD: Whaler by Sophie B. Hawkins for 50p. (Did find some books and DVDs, though.)

  5. My lad just knocked a 3CD fatbox off my desk and broke the primal section :realmad: I have quite a few broken fatboxes at present, and need some inexpensive replacements.

This got my wondering - what's the charity shop everyman-mutual-denominator in fatbox form? The equivalent of Robbie Williams' Life Thru a Lens, something they can't even give abroad, where throwing out the discs and inlays would be a public service.

I occasionally see old fatbox Now! albums at my local, but I kind of feel they're time capsules that deserve to be kept intact.

  6. If it makes you lot feel whatsoever ameliorate, I call back I'm upward to virtually 200. There was a time when I was going to several charity shops every lunchtime and ownership more than CDs than I could mind to. Lots of jazz and "this looks interesting" finds that I nonetheless need to wade through.
  7. At that place are some I used to meet oftentimes, can't recall what they are, peradventure Reader's Digest, the other choice would exist some Classical or talking books, still see both in Fatboxes at kick sales.
Dave S and Human at C&A like this.
  8. That's non being a saddo. Delight do post the list!
  9. The most common unwanted artist in the racks today was Keane. They may fifty-fifty have eclipsed Dido.

The biggest thwarting of the morning was finding Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue in the RSPCA shop, only to discover that the disc inside the box was actually a Harry Potter DVD. Always worth checking. I was tempted to get through the DVDs looking for the Potter box but in instance Dennis was inside, merely there were besides many films to check – with many at flooring level – and I was running out of energy past this point.

I did discover a large Bing Crosby section in All Aboard, but left them for a fan.

  10. I'm pretty sure Robbie beats them both. I've seen about of Robbie's discography several times over in the same clemency shop.

I feel your pain on that Dennis Wilson disc.

  11. That'due south always a killer when you see something decent on the shelf, pull information technology out to have a wait at it and i of the discs is missing or it's the wrong 1 in the instance.
  12. Some atrocious vinyl pricing found by @Misterquartet on Twitter

The ones I was most pleased about:
    — Zappa's 'Road Tapes' and the Steve Reich I found together in BHF on Shepherds Bush Road 1 Sabbatum afternoon when I could have gone to sentinel Leyton Orient v Barrow. Good selection, I recall we (Barrow) got hammered.
    — Jo Jo Gunne, which even though information technology turns out to exist non that good, was something I always wanted to purchase on LP dorsum in the day, only there was always something I wanted more.
    — The Randy Newman tribute album, 'Sail Away' which, beingness a big fan, I always wanted to buy simply expected to have to pay Amazon £14 for.
    — Todd Rundgren's 'The Individualist'. I'm a huge TR fan too, but couldn't afford to buy many CDs in the 1990s when this was released so had never heard it. Really practiced album too. I recollect I bought the Dan's 'Can't Purchase a Thrill' at the same fourth dimension.
    — Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' with the bonus disc; a digipak in absolutely pristine condition.
    — The 'Magnolia' soundtrack which I simply bought to make upward a '3 for the price of two' offering, and thus fabricated me an adventitious but very grateful Aimee Isle of man fan.
    — The deluxe edition of 'What's Going On' which I only got because I'd schlepped over to Southward London to purchase Mrs KG a Xmas nowadays that I could just find at a store at that place and nipped into the one charity shop between the station and the store.
    — The iv sealed digipak Journeying CDs that I got for £one at the tail end of a schoolhouse fair. I don't like to retrieve of all the goodies that had been snapped upwards before that.
    — Vanessa Daou's 'Zipless'. Bit of a synchronicity well-nigh that one. There was a thread here nearly the sexiest song ever written and somebody posted the cover of 'Zipless'. I think it was either the side by side day or the day after that, that I saw it in the local Oxfam.
    — The Flanders and Swann boxset which I'll probably never play in total again, only it'southward nice when a runway pops up on shuffle on my iPod.

  14. Wow! Alviin Lucier, Lord's day Ra, Soft Auto and Terry Riley. Never seen whatsoever of those in a chazzer.
  15. It would be just the once. Vaguely retrieve seeing 'A Rainbow in Curved Air' 1 other time.
  16. Aside from the ubiquitous Mr Williams and Dido, I have constitute the complete "Texas" discography in almost all chazzas. Is this a geographical oddity (I'm in Glasgow), or is the pattern observed nationwide?
  17. Nice 'Due north' Cheapo does information technology every time...

50p 'T'was sitting there in between the boring has beens.

  18. It's geographic, but Glasgow and Dallas.;)
Dave S and mradmack like this.
  19. [IMG]

Joni Mitchell - Complete Geffen Recordings 4 CD box set, box is a niggling worn around edges but otherwise fine and a snip at £2.00.

  20. A local store had some new CDs in. Very foreign prices. Original album series box sets were iii pounds and unmarried CDs were between 3 and v pounds. A bit much for second hand.
  21. Today's just notice was talking somebody out of a Sounds of the Universe tote bag, they were in a local store buying something I'd released and then that bankrupt the water ice and they very kindly let me have their handbag, they didn't fifty-fifty announced to find me weird for asking, though even I call back I'm getting a bit likewise excited about finding numberless.
  22. Care to name and shame the shop in question? .oO
(I bet a hapless customer will bite at some signal.)
  23. Nice find today, the Stax & Trojan sets was £1.50 each and are both sealed, the 'Monkey Business organization' two CD Trojan set was £1 and is also sealed.

The awesome 'Time to come Noir The Making Of Blade Runner' was 50p. :)

  24. Fairly slim pickings at the machine boot, only came abroad with 1 CD and some Asterix books.

The CD sounds pretty great - all 12" mixes, well mastered by Ted Jensen. I hear the un-messed-with version of the MacArthur Park Suite is difficult to find on digital.

Beloved those xanthous face Casablanca discs.
